About Our High Conflict Divorce Coach Certification Program

Divorce is said to be one of the most stressful experiences a person will face in a lifetime. A high-conflict divorce or child custody battle with a narcissist can be emotionally, psychologically, and financially crippling. There are very few resources available to those who find themselves facing a narcissist in the family court system.

The High Conflict Divorce Coach Certification Program (HCDCCP) is the first and only certification program in the world to provide training for those who want to work as high-conflict divorce coaches, consultants or advocates. There is an overwhelming need for professionals in this industry and the HCDCCP’s eight-week certification program provides guidance, training and hands-on experience. Graduates of the program will be fully prepared and poised to assist those who find themselves targeted by a narcissist (or other toxic individual) in family court proceedings.

What Does The Research Say?

Santa Clara University

A Santa Clara University study “Confronting the Challenge of the High-Conflict Personality in Family Court” (Family Law Quarterly) showcases the challenges of divorcing a narcissist or other high-conflict individual:

“Instead of the typical motivation toward settlement, these cases feature a party who is drawn toward, rather than away from, conflict. Whether animated by a genuine belief in their cause, anger over the loss of a relationship, a desire to harass their now-opponent, an affinity for the pageantry of court, or some combination of these factors and others, the litigious client presses the family law court into service.

What distinguishes cases involving high-conflict personalities from these more typical disputes is that the individual with a high-conflict personality is not simply struggling to process a life transition. Instead, this individual is fueled by conflict; indeed, they obtain emotional or psychological gratification from it. One of the hallmarks of these cases is that the conflict is so protracted that it becomes normalized. Rather than progressing toward resolution, as time passes in these cases, the idea of a settlement grows increasingly remote.”

Founder

Tina Swithin, founder of the High Conflict Divorce Coach Certification Program has spent the past decade working as a family court advocate and consultant. It was during her own child custody case that she recognized the need for divorce coaches and advocates who could make real and measurable differences in the lives of those targeted by high-conflict litigants.

“There is a huge disconnect between domestic violence (DV) advocacy groups and the reality of the family court system. We are telling survivors of DV to ‘be brave’ and to leave the abuse but we aren’t preparing them for the new chapter of abuse they are walking into which is post separation abuse.

I have dedicated my life to advocating for those who follow in my footsteps. I remember feeling helpless in a court system that prioritized parental rights over my child’s right to safety. Through this certification program, I will share everything that I have learned as a self-represented litigant in the family court system and as an advocate. I have also gathered the top experts from a variety of fields to provide a training program that has never been offered before. I have created the program that I wish existed when I first started my child custody battle in 2009. This certification program will change lives and graduates will provide support and guidance to those who desperately need it.”

In 2020, Tina Swithin founded the High Conflict Divorce Coach Certification Program (HCDCCP). This is an eight-week course with sessions in January, May and August. The course is designed to empower others as family court advocates and certified high-conflict divorce coaches. Divorce involving a narcissistic individual takes the term, “high-conflict” to a level that few can comprehend. This is the first certification program specific to high-conflict divorce with (suspected or diagnosed) personality disordered individuals.
